TRAMA


Nel medioevo giapponese (XVI secolo), il valoroso principe Shinge Takeda sta per morire. Temendo la riscossa dei rivali, chiede ai parenti più stretti e a tutti i generali del clan di nascondere la sua morte il più a lungo possibile. Quando suo fratello scopre che un ladro cui ha salvato la vita assomiglia in modo impressionante a Shinge convince tutti a farlo passare per il defunto. Col passare del tempo il sosia (kagemusha in giapponese) arriva a un'immedesimazione totale col principe fino ad assumerne il valore e il coraggio di fronte alla morte.




RECENSIONE

Finanziato da George Lucas e Francis Ford Coppola, “Kagemusha - L’ombra del guerriero” è uno dei maggiori capolavori nella carriera del mitico Akira Kurosawa, che per dirigere questo maestoso kolossal ad alto budget è tornato a lavorare in Giappone dopo un decennio di assenza e la parentesi sovietica di “Dersu Uzala”. Vincitore della Palma d’Oro come miglior film al Festival di Cannes del 1980, “Kagemusha” ha riscosso un grande successo di pubblico in tutto il mondo ed è stato consacrato come uno dei massimi risultati nella produzione del leggendario regista nipponico, che ha firmato anche la sceneggiatura insieme a Masato Ide. Ispirandosi alla storia del XVI secolo e in particolare all’epoca Sengoku, Kurosawa ci regala un memorabile affresco del Giappone feudale e delle lotte intestine fra i diversi clan, arricchito da suggestioni provenienti dall’arte, dalla letteratura e dal teatro.
Il titolo, “Kagemusha”, significa “guerriero-ombra”; in altre parole un sosia, come il protagonista del film, interpretato da Tatsuya Nakadai: un comune brigante scampato alla crocifissione in virtù della sua fisionomia, identica a quello di Takeda Shingen, uno storico condottiero vissuto fra il 1521 e il 1573. Shingen è un daimyo, vale a dire un signore della guerra, e la sua morte imminente potrebbe compromettere l’esistenza dell’intero clan dei Takeda. Lo sprovveduto “kagemusha” si ritrova dunque, da un giorno all’altro, a fare da controfigura al potente sovrano: una finzione che dovrà perpetrare per ben tre anni, ingannando familiari, vassalli e sudditi del defunto leader. Kurosawa prende la vicenda di questo “uomo-ombra” e la trasforma in una straordinaria metafora sulla dicotomia fra realtà e teatro: il ladruncolo, costretto a recitare la parte del capo-clan, finirà per restare prigioniero del proprio ruolo, al punto da identificarsi completamente con Shingen e da non riuscire più a distinguere la verità dalla menzogna. Neppure quando, scoperto il trucco, l’uomo verrà scacciato dal feudo del clan Takeda, e tuttavia deciderà di seguire l’esercito nello scontro decisivo.
Il conflitto insolvibile fra vita e maschera diventa così il nucleo tematico della pellicola, mentre l’intera trama risulta fondata sull’abile messinscena di un personaggio dal carattere “pirandelliano”, vittima di una crisi d’identità che lo condurrà inevitabilmente alla pazzia. Con “Kagemusha”, il regista de “I sette samurai” ci offre un’altissima riflessione sul potere e la follia, oltre che una disincantata parabola sulla caducità della gloria e delle illusioni umane, destinate ad essere sepolte dalle sabbie del tempo. Ma il film di Kurosawa è anche e soprattutto uno spettacolo epico e grandioso, impreziosito dalle superbe scenografie di Yoshirô Muraki, dai costumi di Seiichiro Momosawa e dalla splendida fotografia di Takao Saitô. Accanto ad una magnifica sequenza onirica, non si possono non ricordare le stupefacenti scene belliche, fra le più drammatiche ed emozionanti mai viste sullo schermo; da antologia la ricostruzione conclusiva della famosa battaglia di Nagashino, per la quale sono state impiegate ben cinquemila comparse. La versione originale del film ha una durata di tre ore, mentre l’edizione europea è stata ridotta di 20 minuti.    (Stefano Lo Verme)
