Trama
Il film è ambientato nel mondo politico statunitense in un prossimo futuro,
durante le primarie in Ohio per la presidenza del Partito Democratico.
Racconta la vicenda di un giovane e idealista guru della comunicazione
che lavora per un candidato alla presidenza, il governatore Mike Morris,
e che si trova suo malgrado pericolosamente coinvolto negli inganni
e nella corruzione che lo circondano.

SOGGETTO:
Il film è basato sulla pièce teatrale Farragut North di Beau Willimon.

CRITICA:
Il cinema secondo Clooney: raccontare l'America di oggi attraverso
il suo cinema di ieri. Si strizza l'occhio a certi titoli liberal degli anni Settanta,
ai Pollack, ai Lumet. La matrice teatrale del testo non irrigidisce la messa
in scena e garantisce una solidità di scrittura davvero notevole, che il regista
supporta con uno stile lineare e soprattutto con una serie d’interpretazioni
di altissimo livello. La parabola del personaggio di Gosling è tanto più interessante
quanto più racconta non la scontata perdita di un'utopica e ingenua innocenza,
ma quella, ben più grave, di un sano e pragmatico idealismo nel nome del quale
ci si può a volte, con misura, sporcare le mani. Una denuncia un po' pessimista
e quasi rassegnata, ma assai realista, che per Clooney è il più pragmatico
degli idealismi che il marcio che lo circonda non ha ancora ucciso. (federico gironi)
